Outline of the Laboratory

In this laboratory, we conduct diverse education and research activities, ranging from basic research on plasma as it relates to nuclear fusion to research on the confinement of high temperature plasma. More specifically, as part of the basic research on plasma, we create linear plasma of 50mm in diameter by using microwave to study basic molecular and atomic processes. We also research interactions between metal and plasma by radiating the same plasma onto metallic materials such as tungsten. For the research into confinement of high temperature plasma, we use the QUEST spherical tokamak at the Research Institute for Applied Mechanics of Kyushu University. In this way, we pursue research subjects that are essential to the realization of a nuclear fusion reactor, such as particle confinement in high temperature plasma, neutral particle behaviors and hydrogen recycling.
